As part of the 19th Belgrade International Architecture Week – BINA 2024, the book "The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses" by the renowned Finnish architect and theorist Juhani Pallasmaa was presented, published by "Atelier A22."

As part of the 19th Belgrade International Architecture Week – BINA 2024, the book “The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses” by the renowned Finnish architect and theorist Juhani Pallasmaa was presented, published by “Atelier A22.” This event attracted a large audience, who followed the presentation of one of the most important works in the field of architectural theory with great interest.

The Finnish Ambassador, Niklas Lindkvist, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Finland and Serbia in the fields of culture and architecture. Lindkvist highlighted that “The Eyes of the Skin” is a significant contribution to understanding architecture as a multidisciplinary art that involves all the senses.

After the ambassador, Prof. Dr. Slavica Stamatović Vučković and Prof. Dr. Milena Kordić addressed the audience, providing their expert insights into the significance of Pallasmaa’s work. Prof. Dr. Stamatović Vučković pointed out how Pallasmaa, in his book, explores how architecture affects human senses and emotions, while Prof. Dr. Kordić emphasized the innovative approach that integrates the aesthetic and functional aspects of architecture.

Art theorist Milovan Novaković reflected on the philosophical aspect of the book, highlighting Pallasmaa’s ability to connect architecture with a broader cultural and social context. Novaković underlined that “The Eyes of the Skin” offers a deep understanding of how the spaces we build shape our experience of the world.

Finally, the Executive Director of “Atelier A22,” Milica Janković, expressed gratitude to all participants and the audience for their support and interest. Janković stressed that the publication of this book is part of a broader “Atelier A22” project aimed at promoting outstanding works in the fields of architecture and art.

The presentation of Juhani Pallasmaa’s book “The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses” marked this year’s BINA as an event that continues the tradition of connecting the local and international architectural scene, inspiring new generations of architects and architecture enthusiasts.
