The European Day of Languages has been celebrated on September 26th every year since 2001, in collaboration with the European Commission and at the suggestion of the Council of Europe.
The European Day of Languages is supported by EUNIC Serbia, which represents the collaboration of 21 European cultural institutes and embassies in Serbia, as well as the European House (The corner of Knez Mihailova and Zmaj Jovina Street, Belgrade), a new vibrant space where people, cultures, and ideas come together. It’s a place where you can connect, explore, and express your opinions, all under one roof.
The Council of Europe encourages the citizens of Europe, from all 46 member states, to learn languages, regardless of their age or environment.
This year’s program is designed as a creative opportunity for young people and all citizens of Serbia to enrich their language experience through mini-courses organized by EUNIC Serbia members and prize competitions. More information will be provided in the coming days!

The European Day of Languages (EDL) was first celebrated in 2001 during the European Year of Languages. At the end of this campaign the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers decided to make EDL an annual event, to be celebrated each 26 September. Every year, millions of people in the Council’s member states and elsewhere organise or take part in activities to promote linguistic diversity and the ability to speak other languages.
